Amends TCA Title 55, Chapter 4, Part 2.
Present law authorizes issuance of special purpose boat dealer plates with which a person may operate a boat trailer for hire on any highway in Tennessee to make deliveries from a boat manufacturer or dealer to customers without having to register the trailer. The special purpose boat dealer plates are be available to boat manufacturers and dealers in quantities not to exceed 225 plates per dealer or manufacturer, per year. The special purpose boat dealer plates cost $47.30 for the first plate and $23.65 for each additional plate.<br /> <br /> This bill renames the boat dealer special license plates as "boat transport plates" and adds authorization for persons or businesses that transport boats for hire to apply for the plates. This bill removes the 225-plate limit on the number of plates that may be purchased in a 12-month period. This bill removes the provision of present law that limits use of the plates to highways within Tennessee. This bill specifies that, for purposes of obtaining a boat transport plate, a business license is not required as proof that a person or business transports boats for hire.<br /> <br /> ON MARCH 15, 2021, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1, AND PASSED SENATE BILL 165, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #1 changes the two characters that must appear at the beginning of a boat transport plate from "BT" to "BD".<br />
