Amends TCA Title 49.

Present law requires LEAs to adopt and use the uniform grading system developed by the state board of education for students enrolled in grades nine through 12, and to report student grades for the purposes of application for postsecondary financial assistance administered by TSAC using the uniform grading system.<br /> <br /> Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, this bill requires that the state board's uniform grading system for students enrolled in grades nine through 12 use the following grading scale:<br /> <br /> (1) The "A" letter grade corresponds to scoring a percentage of points within the range of 90 to 100;<br /> <br /> (2) The "B" letter grade corresponds to scoring a percentage of points within the range of 80 to 89;<br /> <br /> (3) The "C" letter grade corresponds to scoring a percentage of points within the range of 70 to 79;<br /> <br /> (4) The "D" letter grade corresponds to scoring a percentage of points within the range of 60 to 69; and<br /> <br /> (5) The "F" letter grade corresponds to scoring a percentage of points within the range of zero to 59.<br /> <br /> This bill specifies that use of the uniform grading scale for purposes of application for postsecondary financial assistance administered by TSAC does not prohibit the state board of education or an LEA from developing, adopting, or implementing a grading system for other purposes.<br /> <br /> ON APRIL 27, 2022, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 388, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #1 changes this bill's effective date from "upon becoming a law" to "July 1, 2022," and changes the applicability date from the 2021-2022 school year and thereafter to the 2022-2023 school year and thereafter.<br />
