Amends TCA Title 71, Chapter 5.

Present law specifies the medical assistance that may be provided to TennCare recipients, such as inpatient hospital services and X-ray services. This bill: (1) Adds chiropractic services performed by a person authorized to engage in the practice of chiropractic to the list of healthcare services that may be included as covered TennCare medical assistance; (2) Requires that the medical assistance provided by TennCare include payment for chiropractic services that are provided to recipients who are 18 years of age or older; and (3) Prohibits a TennCare entity from requiring a recipient to first use alternative healthcare services before providing payment for chiropractic services and from creating disincentives that discourage healthcare providers from providing chiropractic services to a recipient. For the purpose of promulgating rules, this bill will take effect upon becoming law. For all other purposes, this bill will take effect January 1, 2022. ON MAY 4, 2021, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 410, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 deletes this bill's provisions that are described in (2) and (3) of the Bill Summary.
