Amends TCA Title 50 and Title 58.
This bill establishes a tiered essential wage for workers deemed essential (in state law, by executive order of the governor or executive head of a local government, or by guidance by the federal government), as discussed below. <br /> <br /> This bill:<br /> <br /> (1) Requires each employer in this state to pay each employee that is an essential worker an essential hourly wage at a rate of not less than $15.00 per hour for 40 hours of time worked per week and one and 1/2 times such employee's essential hourly wage for each hour of time worked in excess of 40 hours in any week, provided that an employer is not required to pay the overtime rate to a person employed in a bona fide executive, administrative, or professional capacity;<br /> <br /> (2) Requires that the hourly wage rate set by item (1) above be increased, based on a 40-hour work week, to $17.50 per hour on July 1, 2021, and to $20.00 per hour on July 1, 2022. Overtime wages paid to essential workers must increase proportionally to the increase in the essential hourly wage prescribed in this item (2); and<br /> <br /> (3) Provides that if the current in-state or federal prevailing wage for government contractors in the same class or functional area is higher than the wages set out in items (1) and (2) above, as applicable, the essential worker must be paid at that higher rate. <br />
