Amends TCA Title 4, Chapter 21, Part 7 and Title 39.
This bill adds to present law by designating the following conduct as the Class D felony offense of civil rights intimidation: (1) Injuring or threatening to injure or coercing another person with intent to unlawfully intimidate another because of the other's perceived or actual employment as a law enforcement officer or judge; and (2) Damaging, destroying, or defacing any real or personal property of another person because of the other's perceived or actual employment as a law enforcement officer or judge. Under present law, a person who wears a mask or disguise with the intent to commit civil rights intimidation commits a Class A misdemeanor. This bill makes it a Class A misdemeanor for a person to wear a mask or disguise with the intent to commit the conduct described in (1) or (2).
