Amends TCA Section 62-4-109.

Generally under present law, a person must be licensed by the board of cosmetology and barber examiners in order to engage in the practice of aesthetics. "Aesthetics" is any of the following practices: massaging, cleansing, stimulating, manipulating, exercising, beautifying or similar work with hands or mechanical or electrical apparatus or by the use of cosmetic preparations, antiseptics, tonics, lotions or creams; placing or applying artificial eyelashes; or giving facials, applying makeup, giving skin care or removing superfluous hair by tweezing, depilatories or waxing. Aestheticians are also subject to all other requirements of the Tennessee Cosmetology Act. This bill exempts a licensed aesthetician who is working under the supervision of a licensed physician from the requirements of the Tennessee Cosmetologist Act. ON APRIL 19, 2021, THE HOUSE SUBSTITUTED SENATE BILL 1339 FOR HOUSE BILL 915, ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1, AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1339, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to authorize a licensed aesthetician to perform cosmetic microneedling if performed under the supervision of a licensed physician.
