Amends TCA Title 9, Chapter 8; Title 29 and Title 41.
Under present law, when a person is granted compensation based on having been wrongfully imprisoned and granted exoneration, the compensation is payable monthly over the period of the person's remaining expected life expectancy. If the person dies before all of the compensation is paid, the remainder of the monthly payments are made to the person's surviving spouse and surviving minor children in equal installments.<br /> <br /> This bill authorizes a person who is granted compensation based on having been wrongfully imprisoned and granted exoneration to designate a beneficiary for the receipt of remaining monthly compensation payments in the event of the person's death.<br />
