Amends TCA Title 68.
Present law generally prohibits conducting a needle exchange program within 2,000 feet of any school or public park. In Davidson County and the municipalities of Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Memphis, a needle exchange program may not be conducted within 1,000 feet of a school or public park. This bill authorizes a needle exchange program to be conducted within any distance of a park in Davidson County and the municipalities of Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Memphis. ON APRIL 5, 2021, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1179, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 adds that the bill will terminate on December 31, 2023, at which time the law as it existed prior to this bill will be reinstated.
