Amends TCA Title 2.

ON APRIL 15, 2021, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 1178, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to make the following changes and additions to present law concerning convenient voting centers: (1) Prohibits the coordinator of elections from approving convenient voting centers for any county election commission that has not used at least one early satellite voting location throughout an early voting period in the most recent regular November election; (2) Extends authorization for counties that have an approved convenience voting pilot project plan to establish convenient voting centers within the county for federal, state, and local elections held in 2022. Present law only provided such authorization through 2020; and (3) Present law authorizing convenient voting center pilot projects applies only in Monroe, Wilson, and Williamson counties. This amendment makes such laws applicable only in Weakley, Sullivan, and Sumner counties; provided, that, if Monroe, Wilson, or Williamson County conducted a pilot project for which the coordinator of elections filed a favorable evaluation report, this amendment authorizes such county to create a program that establishes convenient voting centers in the county for federal, state, and local elections under the same conditions as apply to counties that conducted such a pilot project in 2018.
