Amends TCA Title 49, Chapter 4.

This bill revises the present law eligibility requirements for the general assembly merit scholarship for students who complete high school in a Tennessee home school program or who graduate from an ineligible Tennessee high school, as discussed below. <br /> <br /> Present law provides that, to be eligible for a general assembly merit scholarship as an entering freshman, a student who completes high school in a Tennessee home school program or graduates from an ineligible Tennessee high school must, among other requirements, during the course of a home school program or while attending an ineligible high school:<br /> <br /> (1) Enroll in at least four dual enrollment courses totaling at least 12 semester hours credit at an eligible postsecondary institution and achieving a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0; <br /> <br /> (2) Participate in a governor's school program, and achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0;<br /> <br /> (3) Take two Advanced Placement (AP) examinations, and make a score of at least three; or<br /> <br /> (4) Take one College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) test, and make a score of at least 55.<br /> <br /> This bill revises item (1) above in regard to the number of courses to require enrollment in at least two dual enrollment courses totaling at least six semester hours. This amendment also revises item (3) above to requires only one instead of two AP examinations.<br />
