Under present law, the compensation of members of the county board of education must be fixed by the county legislative body for their services when attending regular special meetings and discharging their duties. Present law provides that the county trustee must not pay the members with vouchers unless the voucher has been approved by the county mayor. Also, no member of any board will receive less than $4.00 per day for the member's services.<br /> <br /> This bill rewrites the above provisions and instead provides the following:<br /> <br /> (1) The county legislative body must fix the compensation of members of the county board at a level that is no less than the compensation fixed for members of the county legislative body pursuant to present law;<br /> <br /> (2) The municipal legislative body must fix the compensation of members of the municipal board of education at a level that is no less than the compensation fixed for members of the municipal legislative body;<br /> <br /> (3) The compensation of members of the board of education of a special school district must be no less than the compensation fixed for members of the county legislative body in the county in which the special school district lies; and<br /> <br /> (4) The county trustee must not pay a voucher issued to members unless the county mayor approves the voucher.<br />
