Amends TCA Title 8, Chapter 50, Part 1 and Title 49.
This bill allows a correctional officer or law enforcement officer employed by a local public entity (employee) to enroll in one course at any state supported college or university, college of applied technology, or the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute without paying tuition, maintenance fees, student activity fees, registration fees, or online course fees for a course taken through regent's online degree programs. This bill requires that a course for which the waiver is granted consists of no more than four credit hours or 120 clock hours. An employee may apply the cost equivalent of the full waiver credit toward payment for a class exceeding four credit hours or 120 clock hours. An employee may only receive the waiver once. This bill specifies that a tuition-paying student must not be denied enrollment in a course because of an employee's enrollment pursuant to this bill.
