Amends TCA Title 49.

Under present law, every public-school student must take an examination at grade eleven that assesses the student's readiness for post-secondary education. This assessment must be approved by the commissioner of education and provide information to assist in developing interventions for the purpose of improving student preparation for postsecondary achievement.<br /> <br /> This bill requires, beginning with the 2022-2023 academic year, each four-year public institution of higher education to require each student seeking admission to, or enrollment in, the institution as an entering freshman to submit the student's score on the state's postsecondary readiness assessment or a nationally recognized college admissions test before the student may be admitted or enrolled.<br /> <br /> ON FEBRUARY 7, 2022, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1, AND RESET SENATE BILL 1815, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #1 limits this bill's requirements concerning submission of a student's score on an assessment to entering freshmen, which this bill defines to mean a student who applies for admission to, or enrollment in, a four-year public institution of higher education no more than 12 months after the date on which the student graduated from high school or completed high school as a home school student.<br /> <br /> This amendment makes this bill applicable to the 2023-2024 academic year and each academic year thereafter, instead of the 2022-2023 academic year and each academic year thereafter.<br /> <br /> ON FEBRUARY 17, 2022, THE SENATE FURTHER CONSIDERED AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1815, AS AMENDED.<br />
