ON MARCH 7, 2022, THE SENATE SUBSTITUTED HOUSE BILL 1904 FOR SENATE BILL 1909, ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1, AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 1904, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 defines, for purposes of this bill, "autoclave" to mean a device that: (1) Sterilizes reusable medical or dental equipment used by a licensed healthcare practitioner or licensed healthcare facility; (2) Is installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations; (3) Contains a boiler; and (4) Is regulated by the federal food and drug administration. This amendment adds that this bill does not prohibit the enforcement of other requirements of present law governing boilers that are unrelated to clearance requirements. This amendment also authorizes the board of boiler rules to waive or exempt a requirement regarding inspections for an autoclave, pursuant to the exemption provided by this amendment.
