Amends TCA Title 55 and Title 68.
Under present law, an individual must possess special authorizations, required to be displayed on a driver license, in order to operate certain types of motor vehicles or motor vehicles hauling certain types of cargo. An individual must possess a "for-hire" endorsement, which is an endorsement required to operate a Class D vehicle as a chauffeur and which includes an ambulance. This bill specifically excludes ambulance personnel from the for-hire endorsement provision of present law. Under this bill, an individual who has reached 18 years of age, has a valid driver license, and has completed an emergency vehicle operations class will be eligible for service as an ambulance driver or operator, and will not be required to obtain any additional specialty endorsements.
