ON APRIL 11, 2022, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 2730, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to add to present law concerning reporting of crime statistics by institutions of higher education. Present law requires each institution of higher education to annually report to the TBI crime statistics for crimes occurring on the campus and in student housing, if applicable, of the institution for publication in an annual report on forms and in the format required by the TBI. This amendment adds a requirement that each report must be certified by the president or the chancellor of the respective institution of higher education, or the president's or chancellor's designee, and must include the certifying official's position and that the TBI include the name and position of each such certifying official in its annual compilation of crime statistics reported by higher education institutions. This amendment authorizes the comptroller of the treasury to conduct a review of an institution of higher education to ensure that the institution is complying with the requirements for reporting security information.
