Amends TCA Section 39-17-1309 and Section 39-17-1350.

Generally, present law authorizes a law enforcement officer to carry firearms at all times and in all places within Tennessee, on-duty or off-duty, regardless of the officer's regular duty hours or assignments. <br /> <br /> Under present law, the authorization to carry firearms at all times does not extend to an officer in certain circumstances, including to an officer who is not engaged in official law enforcement duties and carries a firearm onto school grounds or inside a school building during regular school hours, unless the officer immediately informs the principal that the officer is in possession of a firearm. This bill removes this restriction on the authorization for a law enforcement officer to carry a firearm.<br /> <br /> For the purpose of authorizing an officer to carry firearms at all times, present law defines "law enforcement officer" to include a person who is a full-time employee of the state in a position authorized by the laws of this state to carry a firearm and to make arrests and a full-time police officer who has been certified by the peace officer standards and training commission.<br /> <br /> This bill specifies that the authorization described above applies if the employee or police officer is "in good standing."<br />
