Amends TCA Title 4, Chapter 3, Part 13; Title 49 and Title 68.
This bill requires an LEA or the governing body of a public charter school to incorporate water bottle filling stations as part of any new construction of a school building; renovation of more than half the area of an existing school building; or substantial repair, replacement, or upgrading of a school building's plumbing system or plumbing fixtures, as follows: (1) At least one station for each 200 or fewer students; (2) At least one station on each floor and in each wing of the school building; (3) At least one station in each food service area; and (4) At least one station in close proximity to gymnasiums, outdoor learning and activity areas, playgrounds, and athletic facilities. This bill requires an LEA or governing body of a public charter school that incorporates a water bottle filling station into a public school building to regularly clean and maintain the water bottle filling station. This bill also prohibits any such LEA or governing body from prohibiting students from bringing a clear water bottle to school.
