Amends TCA Title 2, Chapter 5, Part 2.

Present law requires that, on general election ballots, the name of each political party having nominees on the ballot be listed in the following order: majority party, minority party, and recognized minor party, if any. The names of the political party candidates must be alphabetically listed underneath the appropriate column for the candidate's party. A column for independent candidates must follow the recognized minor party, or if there is not a recognized minor party on the ballot, must follow the minority party, with the listing of the candidates' names alphabetically underneath. This bill rewrites the above to instead require that, on partisan general election ballots, the name of the statewide political party or recognized minor party that each candidate represents, if any, be listed next to the candidate's name. Under this bill, if the candidate does not represent a statewide political party or recognized minor party, the word "Independent" must be listed next to the candidate's name. This bill requires that the names of candidates representing statewide political parties or recognized minor parties must be listed first, in alphabetical order according to the initials of their surnames, followed by independent candidates, also in alphabetical order according to the initials of their surnames.
