Amends TCA Title 7 and Title 65.
Under present law, the Utilities' Cut-off Procedures Act, which applies in Davidson County only, requires the utility governing body, in conjunction with the utility management team, to establish a policy governing the discontinuation of service for nonpayment of service. The policy must be in compliance with service practice standards and best practices for similarly situated utilities.<br /> <br /> This bill makes the Act applicable statewide and prohibits a utility governing body from discontinuing service on:<br /> <br /> (1) A day on which reconnections cannot take place within 24 hours of a disconnection; or<br /> <br /> (2) The day preceding, or following, a legal holiday.<br /> <br /> This bill specifies that the policy adopted under the Act must be in compliance with the above-described provisions of this bill.<br /> <br /> NOTE: It appears that the reference in the amendatory language of 65-32-104 of this bill to "65-32-104" should be to "65-32-103."<br />
