Amends TCA Title 49, Chapter 6, Part 50.
Present law authorizes the commissioner of health, subject to the approval of the public health council, to designate diseases against which children must be immunized prior to attendance at any school, nursery school, kindergarten, preschool or child care facility of this state. This bill rewrites the above provision to remove the reference to the approval of the public health council, which no longer exists, and to add that before the commissioner designates a disease against which a child must be immunized on or after July 1, 2021, a list of the diseases proposed for designation by the commissioner must be submitted to, and approved by, a majority of the health and welfare committee of the senate and the health committee of the house, and must be approved by joint resolution of the senate and house.
