Amends TCA Title 40.

This bill creates an ad hoc committee, consisting of the following members, to review the current laws and policies this state has regarding cash bail:<br /> <br /> (1) The prime sponsors of this bill in the house and the senate;<br /> <br /> (2) The chair of the criminal justice committee of the house;<br /> <br /> (3) The chair of the judiciary committee of the senate;<br /> <br /> (4) Five house representative members appointed by the speaker of the house, at least two of the members must be from the minority party; and<br /> <br /> (5) Four senate members appointed by the speaker of the senate, at least one of the members must be from the minority party.<br /> <br /> The chair of the judiciary committee of the senate will call the first meeting of the ad hoc committee no later than August 1, 2021. The members of the ad hoc committee are authorized to receive the same per diem and travel allowance provided by law for members of the general assembly in attending meetings of the general assembly and committees.<br /> <br /> This bill requires the committee to review:<br /> <br /> (1) Current laws, rules, and policies regarding the cash bail system in this state; <br /> <br /> (2) The procedures involving cash bail;<br /> <br /> (3) The impact that cash bail has on the citizens of this state; and<br /> <br /> (4) Cash bail procedures implemented in other states. <br /> <br /> The committee will report its findings and recommendations to the members of the general assembly by January 15, 2022, at which time the ad hoc committee will terminate.<br />
