Amends TCA Title 20; Title 29 and Title 50, Chapter 1.
Present law prohibits the discharge or termination of an employee solely for refusing to participate in, or for refusing to remain silent about, illegal activities. Present law defines "illegal activities” as activities that are in violation of the criminal or civil code of this state or the United States or any regulation intended to protect the public health, safety or welfare. This bill adds that "illegal activities" for the purposes of the above-described prohibition does not include activities prohibited by anti-discrimination laws.
