Amends TCA Title 49, Chapter 5.
ON FEBRUARY 24, 2022, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 1754, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 changes the grades that an eligible professor of higher education may teach pursuant to a special license issued by the department of education to be grades 6-12. Also, under present law, one of the requirements to teach pursuant to the special license is submission for review by the department or a partnering institution of higher education of at least three years of documented teaching evaluations that rate the applicant for licensure as proficient or better in the subject area in which the applicant is seeking licensure. The teaching evaluations must have been administered by the institution at which the applicant taught. This amendment rewrites this provision to instead provide for submission for review by the department a letter of recommendation from a department academic chair or other equivalent authority at the applicant's institution documenting that the applicant for licensure is proficient or better in the subject area in which the applicant is seeking licensure.
