Amends TCA Title 62, Chapter 13.

Under present law, the Tennessee Real Estate Broker License Act requires that individuals licensed under the Act complete certain continuing education courses in order to have their licenses renewed. Present law sets out certain requirements for continuing education courses, including distance education courses. Under present law, a distance education course using computer-based or online materials or formats may be submitted to the real estate commission for analysis and possible approval if the course is certified by the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) or other certifying body at the discretion of the commission, as to technology, support of the technology, interactivity and course design. This bill makes this provision applicable only to a synchronous course, but exempts a course that is asynchronous from this requirement. This bill defines "asynchronous course" as a course offered to students at no specific time, where the teacher and student are separated by both time and distance; and defines "synchronous course" as a course offered in real time, where the teacher and student are separated by distance.
