Amends TCA Title 49, Chapter 1.

Under this bill, beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, LEAs and public charter schools may allow teachers to use the results from benchmark assessments including, but not limited to, state-adopted benchmark assessments or a universal screener approved by the state board of education, as a measure of student achievement. Also, this bill provides that beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, LEAs, schools, and public charter schools may use the results from benchmark assessments, including, but not limited to, state-adopted benchmark assessments or a universal screener approved by the state board of education, to measure student performance and growth. The benchmark assessment results may be used as a measure of student achievement to generate individual growth scores for LEAs and public charter schools. Results from benchmark assessments must be used in addition to scores generated through the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS).<br /> <br /> ON MARCH 10, 2022, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1890, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #1 removes the provisions regarding LEAs, schools, and public charter schools using the benchmark assessments as a measure of student performance and growth, but maintains the provision for teachers using such assessments as a measurement of student achievement for purposes of their evaluations.<br />
