Amends TCA Title 49.

This bill requires LEAs and public charter schools to require students in each of the grades six through eight to complete a financial literacy course that is age and grade appropriate and designed to educate students on budgeting, saving, spending, credit, debit, insurance, investment, and other topics and concepts associated with personal financial responsibility, as determined by the state board of education. This bill requires the department of education, in consultation with the Tennessee financial literacy commission, to provide LEAs and public charter schools with resources, materials, and educational programs that may be used to implement the financial literacy instruction required by this bill. ON APRIL 11, 2022, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 2294, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 urges, rather than requires, LEAs and public charter schools to require students in grades six through eight to complete a financial literacy course.
