SB2367112th GA (Historical)Introduced

Amends TCA Title 55, Chapter 10 and Title 55, Chapter 8.

Under present law, the Tennessee department of safety has a point system where points are accumulated on an individual's driving record based on accidents and traffic violations. Each violation has a different point value and when a certain number of points is reached, an individual's driver license may be suspended or revoked. This bill establishes a procedure for a person who is convicted of a speeding offense to remove points charged to the person's driving record if the person completes an approved defensive driving course within 90 days of the conviction. Five points is the maximum number of points that may be removed pursuant to this bill. This bill may be applied to only one speeding offense for each driving course completed and only once in a four-year period.
