Amends TCA Title 2, Chapter 1.
This bill requires the governor, the secretary of state, the coordinator of elections, the state election commission, a county election commission, or other state entity authorized to act under present law concerning elections, to consult with the speaker of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives prior to entering into consent decrees to change state election laws or rules. This bill specifies that the general assembly has legal standing to file an action against state officials for violating this bill's requirement. ON MARCH 10, 2022, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 2483, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 extends this bill's requirements to county officials in addition to state officials.
