Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 14, Part 6.
ON APRIL 14, 2022, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 2796, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to classify all misdemeanor offenses under the Tennessee Personal and Commercial Computer Act of 2003 as Class A misdemeanor offenses. Under present law, the Act includes Class A, B and C misdemeanor offenses. This amendment adds possession of a computer contaminant as a prohibited act (Class A misdemeanor offense). Present law defines "computer contaminant" to mean any set of computer instructions that are designed to modify or in any way alter, damage, destroy, or disrupt the proper operation of a computer system, or computer network without the intent or authorization of the owner of the information. This amendment also clarifies the Act by deleting a redundant section of present law.
