Amends TCA Title 68.
ON MARCH 28, 2022, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 2242, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to add to present law concerning the minimum statewide building construction safety standards promulgated by the state fire marshal. This amendment replaces a provision of present law that required a study concerning the use of sprinkler system equipment in certain residential structures and a report to the general assembly in 2010. This amendment requires that the minimum statewide building construction safety standards include provisions for multi-level commercial and residential structures relative to mitigating structural collapse that may result from explosive devices, including, but not limited to, methods to deter entry into a structure by a motor vehicle. This amendment requires the state fire marshal, in conjunction with the department of safety, to promulgate rules in accordance with this amendment. The provisions of this amendment take effect upon becoming a law for rulemaking purposes and January 1, 2023, for all other purposes.
