Generally, the Tennessee Human Rights Act prohibits various forms of discrimination in employment, public accommodations, and housing. A violation of the Act subjects the violator to various forms of administrative action, such as: admission of individuals to a place of public accommodation; extension to all individuals of the full and equal enjoyment of services; payment to the complainant of damages for an injury, including humiliation and embarrassment; posting notices; and other remedies. Additionally, any person injured by any act in violation of the Act may sue for injunctive relief and actual damages. This bill makes it a violation under the Act for a person to violate the religious freedom of another by taking adverse action against the other person who objects to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine based on a religious belief, creed, or personal conscience. This bill authorizes a person who is injured as a result of a violation of this bill to bring a lawsuit seeking treble damages, costs, and reasonable attorney's fees.
