ON MARCH 18, 2024, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1062, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #1 rewrites the bill as follows:<br /> <br /> (1) Establishes that three or more of the counties of Dickson, Hickman, Lewis, Perry, and Wayne and the cities of Dickson, Centerville, and Hohenwald are authorized by a vote of 2/3 of their respective governing bodies to become members of the south central Tennessee railroad authority ("authority");<br /> <br /> (2) Establishes that action taken by a county or city identified in (1) above to become a member of the authority prior to the effective date of the bill remains effective and further action is not required by such county or city. Only cities and counties identified in (1) above are authorized to be members of the authority;<br /> <br /> (3) Authorizes a county mayor of a county that is a member of the authority to select and appoint one additional member, and a city mayor of a city that is a member of the authority may select and appoint one additional member. The term of each selected and appointed member must be prescribed by the county or city mayor making the appointment. A mayor has the right to terminate the term of a member appointed by the mayor or the mayor's predecessor; and<br /> <br /> (4) Amends a present law prohibition against a contract or acquisition by purchase of equipment, apparatus, materials, or supplies by the authority exceeding $500, and the prohibition against a contract for construction, installation, repair, or improvement of property of facilities involving more than $500 from being made except after such contract has been advertised for bids, by changing the dollar amount in each instance to $10,000.<br />
