Amends TCA Title 49.
ON APRIL 13, 2023, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1268, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to revise present law concerning participation in school board meetings by electronic participation.<br /> <br /> Under present law, a school board member may participate in a school board meeting electronically if the member is absent because the member is required to be out of the county in which the LEA is located for the member's work, the member is dealing with a family emergency as determined by the LEA, or because of the member's military service. Present law generally limits to two per year the number of school board meetings in which a school board member may participate electronically.<br /> <br /> This amendment expands the reasons for which a school board member may participate in a board meeting electronically to the following:<br /> <br /> (1) The member is out of the county due to work; provided, that the member participates electronically for such reason no more than two times per year;<br /> <br /> (2) The member is sick or in a period of convalescence on the advice of a healthcare professional that the member not appear in person; provided, that the member participates electronically for such reason no more than three times per year;<br /> <br /> (3) The member is out due to inclement weather or natural disaster if the schools in the LEA are closed; provided, that the member participates electronically for such reason no more than three times per year;<br /> <br /> (4) The member has a family emergency that inhibits the member from attending the board meeting in person; provided, that the member participates electronically for such reason no more than two times per year; or <br /> <br /> (5) The member is out of the county due to military service.<br />
