Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13.
Under present law, it is a Class A misdemeanor offense for a person to:<br /> <br /> (1) Sell or offer to sell a firearm to a person knowing that the person is prohibited by state or federal law from owning, possessing or purchasing a firearm; or<br /> <br /> (2) Transfer a firearm to a person knowing that the person has been judicially committed to a mental institution or adjudicated as a mental defective (unless the person's right to possess firearms has been restored) or is receiving inpatient treatment at a treatment resource other than a hospital.<br /> <br /> This bill makes it a Class A misdemeanor offense for a person to knowingly give, sell, lend, deliver, or otherwise transfer a firearm to a person when the transferor knows or reasonably should know that the person receiving the firearm is prohibited from purchasing or possessing a firearm under state or federal law.<br />
