Amends TCA Title 5; Title 41 and Title 68.

ON APRIL 3, 2023, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 927, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to revise present law relative to medical care of prisoners. <br /> <br /> Under present law, the county legislative bodies alone have the power, and it is their duty, to provide medical attendance for all prisoners confined in the jail in their respective counties. The county legislative bodies must allow the county jail physician such compensation, to be paid by their respective counties, as may be fixed by the county legislative body agreed upon in writing between the county and the attending jail physician or as may be fixed by the county legislative body.<br /> <br /> This amendment exempts the county legislative bodies from having to provide for federally funded medication for HIV positive patients. This amendment also adds that, subject to the availability of federal funds and the satisfaction requirement for use of such federal funds, the department of health may use federal funding for the payment of medication for inmates who are HIV positive.<br /> <br /> ON APRIL 19, 2023, THE HOUSE SUBSTITUTED SENATE BILL 927 FOR HOUSE BILL 1484, ADOPTED AMENDMENT #2, AND PASSED SENATE BILL 927, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #2 authorizes the use of state funds for the same purposes described in the Summary for Senate Amendment #1. <br />
