Amends TCA Title 2; Title 4; Title 8 and Section 55-50-336.

For the purpose of verifying a person's identification on an application for a ballot, present law generally limits such evidence of identification to the following:<br /> <br /> (1) A Tennessee driver license;<br /> <br /> (2) A valid identification card issued by the state of Tennessee, or the United States where authorized by law to issue personal identification, as long as the identification card contains a photograph of the voter. However, this does not include an identification card issued to a student by an institution of higher education;<br /> <br /> (3) A valid identification card issued not for vehicular purposes by this state;<br /> <br /> (4) A valid United States passport;<br /> <br /> (5) A valid employee identification card issued by the state of Tennessee, or the United States where authorized by law to issue employee identification, as long as the identification card contains a photograph of the voter;<br /> <br /> (6) A valid United States military identification card as long as the identification card contains a photograph of the voter; or<br /> <br /> (7) Certain employee identification cards for retired state employees.<br /> <br /> This bill requires the secretary of state and each county election commission to publish with each election-related communication disseminated to one or more residents in this state the following: <br /> <br /> (1) That state-issued photo identification cards for purposes of voting may be obtained free of charge from the Tennessee department of safety; <br /> <br /> (2) The manner in which to apply for and receive the identification card; <br /> <br /> (3) The information that an applicant needs to apply for the identification card; and <br /> <br /> (4) The following prominently displayed statement: <br /> <br /> A STATE-ISSUED PHOTO IDENTIFICATION CARD MAY BE USED FOR VOTING PURPOSES, AS AUTHORIZED BY TENNESSEE CODE ANNOTATED, SECTION 2-7-112(c).<br />
