Amends TCA Title 36 and Title 39, Chapter 17.

Present law provides that a person commits aggravated stalking when a person commits stalking and:<br /> <br /> (1) Displays a deadly weapon;<br /> <br /> (2) The victim was less than 18 and the offender was five or more years older, or the victim was 65 or older;<br /> <br /> (3) Has previously been convicted of stalking within seven years; <br /> <br /> (4) Makes a credible threat to the victim, the victim's child, sibling, spouse, parent, or dependents with the intent to place them in reasonable fear of death or bodily injury; or<br /> <br /> (5) Was prohibited from contacting the victim under a restraining order, an order of protection, or other court-imposed prohibition of conduct toward a victim or their property, and the offender knowingly violated the injunction, order or court-imposed prohibition.<br /> <br /> This bill expands the offense of aggravated stalking to include a person who purchases a semi-automatic rifle or attempts to use a semi-automatic rifle for the course and furtherance of stalking. "Semi-automatic rifle" is defined in this bill as a repeating rifle that utilizes a portion of the energy of a firing cartridge to extract the fired cartridge case and chamber the next round, and which requires a separate function of the trigger to fire each projectile.<br />
