Amends TCA Title 16, Chapter 2.
Effective September 1, 2024, this bill creates in the 18th judicial district one additional trial court, whose judge is to be initially appointed by the governor. The person so appointed must serve in that capacity until September 1, 2026, or until the person's successor is elected and qualified. At the August 2026 general election, the qualified voters of the 18th judicial district must elect one person to serve as the judge of the trial court. The person so elected at the August 2026 general election must hold office until September 1, 2030, or until the person's successor is elected and qualified. Thereafter, the judge of the trial court created by this bill must be elected for a full eight-year term.
