Amends TCA Title 4; Title 9 and Title 71.
This bill provides that a parent or guardian of a child is eligible for the Smart Steps child care payment assistance program if the parent's or guardian's income does not exceed 100 percent of the state median income, as published by the bureau of the census. According to the bureau of the census, the median income for this state from 2018-2022 was $64,035 (in 2022 dollars). This bill further provides that payments of financial assistance made under this bill for parents or guardians whose income is equal to or exceeds 85 percent, but does not exceed 100 percent, of the state median income program must be funded using 100 percent state funds.
