SB0083113th GA (Historical)Introduced

Amends TCA Title 39; Title 54 and Title 55.

This bill changes the requirements for drivers of commercial motor vehicles in a platoon on the streets and highways of this state as described below. Present law authorizes a person to operate a platoon on the streets and highways of this state if certain conditions are met, one being that if the platoon includes a commercial motor vehicle, then an appropriately endorsed driver who holds a valid CDL must be present behind the wheel of each commercial motor vehicle in the platoon. Present law defines “platoon” to mean a group of individual motor vehicles that are traveling in a unified manner at electronically coordinated speeds. This bill alters the above requirement by requiring only the lead commercial motor vehicle, rather than each commercial vehicle, in the platoon to have an appropriately endorsed driver who holds a valid CDL present behind the wheel.
