The Megasite Authority of West Tennessee Act of 2021 authorizes a local governmental entity to contract with an entity working on the megasite for the provision of security services at the megasite.<br /> <br /> This bill adds authorization for a governmental employee to contract with an entity working on the megasite for the provision of security services at the megasite. <br /> <br /> This bill specifies that a governmental entity or governmental employee that provides security services at the megasite is entitled to the immunity and liability protections prescribed by the Tennessee Governmental Tort Liability Act.<br /> <br /> ON APRIL 3, 2023, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 561, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to revise provisions of present law relative to the powers vested in the Megasite Authority of West Tennessee (the "authority"). Present law provides that the authority is vested with all powers necessary for and consistent with accomplishing the purposes of the Megasite Authority of West Tennessee Act of 2021, including, but not limited to, the power to enter into agreements with local governments regarding the provisions of governmental services to the megasite and the distribution to local governments of payments in lieu of ad valorem property taxes. This amendment revises that specified power to also include the ability to enter into agreements with industrial development corporations for the same purposes.<br />
