Amends TCA Title 8, Chapter 14 and Title 8, Chapter 7.
Under present law, assistant district attorneys general and criminal investigators hired after July 1, 1994, are compensated according to pay schedules set in statute. The assistant district attorney pay schedule begins at $53,338 for entry level positions and caps at $139,908 for those after 25 years of employment. The criminal investigator pay schedule begins at $33,852 for entry level positions and caps at $64,584 for those after 20 years of employment.<br /> <br /> This bill increases the salaries in the set pay schedule for assistant district attorneys by at least $10,465. This bill increases the salaries in the set pay schedule for criminal investigators by at least $9,328.<br /> <br /> ON APRIL 21, 2023, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 813, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #1 revises this bill to provide that criminal investigators must be compensated $76,428 after 18 years, and $80,532 after 20 years; and adds new sections to this bill that revise present law provisions regarding the pay schedules for full-time assistant district public defenders and full-time district investigators, as described below.<br /> <br /> Under present law, the full-time assistant district public defender pay schedule is the same as that of the assistant district attorney, and the full-time district investigator pay schedule is the same as that of the criminal investigator. This amendment increases the salaries in the set pay schedule for full-time assistant district public defenders by at least $10,465, and increases the salaries in the set pay schedule for full-time district investigators by at least $9,328.<br />
