ON APRIL 17, 2023, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #2 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1100, AS AMENDED.<br /> <br /> AMENDMENT #2 changes the order for staggering initial terms of commissioners so that each appointing authority will appoint one individual for an initial four-year term, one individual for an initial three-year term, and the third individual for an initial two-year term. <br /> <br /> This amendment adds the executive director of the Tennessee historical commission as an ex officio non-voting member of the commission and as the executive director of the commission. <br /> <br /> This amendment changes the commission's meeting requirements to be as needed, with the first meeting to be called by the governor in July of 2023, instead of quarterly. <br /> <br /> This amendment requires the Tennessee historical commission to provide all staff support required for the monuments and memorials commission. <br /> <br /> This amendment clarifies that all matters filed with the Tennessee historical commission pursuant to the Tennessee Heritage Protection Act must be resolved by the Tennessee historical commission until all Tennessee monument and memorials commission members are appointed and the new commission, with the concurrence of the executive director of the historical commission, adopts a resolution acknowledging that it has acquired adequate staff, funding, and resources to carry out its responsibilities. The Tennessee historical commission is required to hear and otherwise dispose of all matters related to the Tennessee Heritage Protection Act that are pending as of June 30, 2023. The Tennessee monuments and memorials commission will hear and dispose of matters pertaining to the Tennessee Heritage Protection Act beginning on July 1, 2023.<br />
