SB1503113th GA (Historical)Introduced

Amends TCA Title 8; Title 10; Title 33; Title 36; Title 38; Title 39; Title 40; Title 49; Title 50 and Title 70.

This bill renames enhanced and concealed handgun carry permits as enhanced and concealed firearm carry permits. COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS OFFICERS In Claiborne, Grainger, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, and Union counties, present law authorizes a community corrections officer who holds a valid Tennessee handgun carry permit to carry a handgun at all times and in all places in this state while in the course of employment and engaged in the actual discharge of official duties, except in certain circumstances. This bill revises this provision to authorize such officers to carry a firearm at all times, if the person has a permit. REFUGE, PUBLIC HUNTING AREA, WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA, AND NATIONAL FOREST LAND Under present law, a person with a handgun carry permit may possess a handgun the entire year while on the premises of a refuge, public hunting area, wildlife management area, or, to the extent permitted by federal law, national forest land maintained by the state. This bill extends this authorization to allow possession of a firearm in such circumstance. OUT-OF-STATE HOLDERS Under present law, a facially valid handgun permit, firearms permit, weapons permit, or license issued by another state is valid in this state according to its terms and must be treated as if it is a handgun permit issued by this state. However, this provision does not authorize the holder of an out-of-state permit or license to carry, in this state, a firearm or weapon other than a handgun. This bill removes the language about the provision not authorizing the holder to carry, in this state, a firearm or weapon other than a handgun.
