Amends TCA Title 4 and Title 71.

ON APRIL 9, 2024, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND REFERRED SENATE BILL 1505, AS AMENDED, TO THE CALENDAR COMMITTEE. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites the bill to, instead, do the following: (1) Authorizes the department of human services ("department") to actively seek and apply for federal grants and other available federal funds, and utilize available federal funds, for the purpose of alleviating childhood hunger. The department is encouraged to begin seeking and applying for such funds within 90 days of the effective date of the bill; (2) Requires the department to report by February 1, 2025, and on or before February 1 of each subsequent year, to the chairs of the health and welfare committee of the senate and the health committee of the house of representatives on any grants or other federal funds that are available to the department for the purpose of alleviating childhood hunger. The report must identify the following: (A) Funds the department has applied for pursuant to (1) above but that have not yet been awarded or received; (B) Funds the department has received pursuant to an application and the ways in which such funds are being distributed and used; (C) Applications for funds that the department made pursuant to (1) above that were denied and any reasons for the denial that the department was provided or is able to identify; (D) Available funds for which the department did not apply and the department's reasons for its decision not to apply for such funds; and (E) Other federal funding the department has identified as available for the purpose of alleviating childhood hunger; and (3) Authorizes the department to submit the report in conjunction with other reports required by law.
