Amends TCA Title 4, Chapter 54; Section 36-3-625; Section 38-3-119; Title 39 and Section 40-14-109.

This bill creates a Class A misdemeanor offense for a person who purchases or attempts to purchase an assault weapon; or sells or offers to sell an assault weapon to a person. This bill defines "assault weapon" as the following:<br /> <br /> (1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:<br /> <br /> (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;<br /> <br /> (B) A thumbhole stock;<br /> <br /> (C) A folding or telescoping stock;<br /> <br /> (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher;<br /> <br /> (E) A flash suppressor; or<br /> <br /> (F) A forward pistol grip;<br /> <br /> (2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds; or<br /> <br /> (3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches; and<br /> <br /> This bill clarifies that "assault weapon" does not include an antique firearm.<br />
