Amends TCA Title 49, Chapter 6.

Present law provides that, in order for every student for whom it is educationally appropriate to receive instruction in computer science sufficient to enable the student to communicate and to be prepared for the technological jobs of today and tomorrow, the state board of education must, no later than the 2024-2025 school year, require each public middle school student to take one course in computer science education that includes instruction for a minimum of one grading period for one full school year. This bill adds to the present law by clarifying that the above provision only applies to middle school students who enroll in the lowest grade level offered at a middle school in the 2024-2025 school year, or in a subsequent school year. This bill authorizes the state board to promulgate rules to effectuate this bill as well as computer science requirements in present law for high school and elementary school students.
