Amends TCA Title 40.
ON FEBRUARY 29, 2024, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1. HOUSE BILL 1719, AS AMENDED, WAS HELD ON THE CLERK'S DESK. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to, instead, prohibit a magistrate from considering a defendant's ability to pay when determining the amount of bail necessary to reasonably assure the appearance of the defendant while at the same time protecting the safety of the public. ON APRIL 9, 2024, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 2565, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to, instead, prohibit a magistrate from considering a defendant's ability to pay when determining the amount of bail necessary to reasonably assure the appearance of the defendant while at the same time protecting the safety of the public.
