Amends TCA Title 39 and Title 40.

Present law provides that it is a Class A misdemeanor for any person for the purpose of commercial advantage or private financial gain to transport or cause to be transported into the state an individual who the person knows or should have known has illegally entered or remained in the United States, as determined by the bureau of immigration and customs enforcement of the United States department of homeland security. Under present law, this offense is only punishable by a fine of $1,000 for each person illegally transported. This bill amends the above provision to apply to any person who knowingly or recklessly transports or causes a person to be transported into this state who has illegally entered or remained in the United States, as determined by the bureau of immigration and customs enforcement of the United States department of homeland security. Additionally, this bill increases the fine to $5,000 for each person illegally transported.
